TRANS-HUMERAL PROSTHESIS (ABOVE THE ELBOW ARTIFICIAL ARM)
Disability is a global issue and a significant public health problem. World Health Organization estimates a 15% of prevalence disability globally, with the majority of persons with disability (PWD) living in developing countries.
Persons with lower limb disability require assistive devices in the form of orthoses and prostheses, without which they face activity limitations, participation restrictions, and can poorer health and quality of life.
A Trans-Humeral Prosthesis (THP) is an artificial upper limb that replaces amputated limb above the elbow. It is utilized for amputations as a result of trauma, blood vessel disorder, diabetes and gangrene, or congenital absences of the hand, forearm and elbow above the elbow.
