CARE OF NEWBORN AT SECONDARY CARE UNIT
The first 28 days of life – the neonatal period – is the most vulnerable time for a child’s survival. Children face the highest risk of dying in their first month of life at an average global rate of 17 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2019.
Pakistan has the 2nd highest infant mortality in the world- 42 deaths per 1,000 live births.
The secondary care unit comes with the capability to provide care for newborns born after 34 weeks and weighing more than 1800gms having fast breathing, jaundice, feeding difficulties, blood sugar instability, acquired infection and other problems that do not need intensive monitoring and care. Additionally, it caters to NICU graduated babies who are stable enough and in transition phase for home care.
