A 1000 KM FOR A 1000 CHEMOTHERAPIES
The Polish charity ultra-runner, Szymon Makuch in collaboration with Herosi Foundation, Poland, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital partnered with Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN) to raise funds and awareness for childhood cancer patients. Szymon Makuch is a charity ultra-runner and specializes in ultra-distance runs for fundraising purposes. He has successfully fundraised for patients with muscular atrophy and stroke through his expeditions.
To emulate the difficulty and pain of childhood cancer patients who have to go through an arduous journey to battle their disease, Szymon took the task of running through the highest mountain ranges in the world: Karakoram, Himalayas, and the Hindukush. This trail is one of the hardest trails in the world and Szymon is the first person who undertook this onerous journey. This trail is 1000 kilometers long, was spread over 23 days, and covered the majestic glaciers of Baltistan, the second highest peak of the world, K2, the Broad Peak near Skardu, the Batogah pass which is at an altitude of 4000 meters, and culminated in Naran.
Szymon was accompanied by renowned filmmaker, Adrian Dmoch who documented and filmed every moment of this brazen expedition. This charity run was used to raise money for the chemotherapy sessions of childhood cancer patients. IHHN is highly grateful to Szymon Makuch for his brave endeavor to raise funds for Pediatric Cancer patients as well as to Herosi Foundation, the Polish Embassy and St.Jude’s for their cooperation.
